Walks in 2022

Ridgeway Walks on 5/6th June

There were two walks in June 2022. Both were along the iconic Ridgeway path with the second walk diverting to Nettlebed for the tribute concert to Rowan Godel in the evening at the Nettlebed Folk Club. JJ and the Reluctant Ramblers band were joined for the concert by members of Oysterband, the Ladies of Nettlebed and other musical colleagues of Rowan.

The first walk was on Sunday 5th June, starting at 11am at the Uffington White Horse, walking east along the Ridgeway then down into Blewbury to finish with a drink at the Red Lion pub. The walk was 16 miles and finished around 5pm. They were car parks and meeting places for anyone wishing a shorter walk. The Red Lion stayed open for us and provided a special Jubilee Menu.

That Sunday was the day of the 1km Jubilee Street Party on the bridge between Streatley and Goring. The bridge was closed to traffic between 12.30 and 6pm.

The second walk was on Monday 6th June. We met outside Pierreponts Cafe on the Goring side of the Thames near the bridge leaving at 11am. Unfortunately, the cafe is not open on a Monday. The walk went north along the Ridgeway and Thames Path, turning eastwards following the Ridgeway and over to Nettlebed for the tribute concert to Rowan Godel in the evening. This walk was 12.5 miles.

As all the regular walkers know, we are not a guided walking party but are there, like you, to enjoy walking and music and being together in astonishing landscape. Anyone is welcome to join for either a whole walk or just some of one. Be sure you are fit and able to walk the distances and look after yourselves, bring the right gear, carry what you need but not too much and make your own arrangements for transport.
