Friday 20th July – Pewsey to Devizes

OS Explorer Map 157

Today we will follow the ‘White Horse Trail’ along the Kennet and Avon Canal to Devizes, a distance of 13 miles. We should see the White Horse at Alton Barnes from the trail.

We meet at 9am back at The Crown and walk up to the canal. We then walk west along the canal path.

After about 5 miles, we reach Honeystreet and the Barge Inn. Unfortunately, they don’t open until 11.30. After another 2 miles we may drop down off the canal path into All Cannings to stop at the Kings Arms for lunch. They open at 12 noon. However, we will have been to the Kings Arms already on the previous day and so may decide to stop somewhere else for lunch.

After lunch, we carry on along the canal path towards Devizes. If we have the time and energy, we may take a detour at Horton Bridge and walk up Roundway Hill  to the White Horse figure. Then downhill along the ‘Quakers Walk’ path into Devizes.

This evening we have a pub gig at The Southgate in Devizes.
