Photobook 2015 and your photos

A number of people have shown interest in having a photobook from the walks this year. For the past three years, Fran and Tom have put a selection of photographs from that years walking tour into a photobook and sold it at cost price. Normally around £30-35. Previous years have been one week tour.

This year, we have done three sets of walks: the Big Session walk out of Buxton, the Ridgeway and the Lakes.

We propose to gather together a selection of pictures from each of these three into one photobook. As before, we will add JJ’s blogs to give some commentary to the photographs.

There have been many lovely photographs presented on Facebook. For a photobook, we really need the original photographs to get the quality when printed.

If you have photographs to contribute to this then please get in touch via info@jj-rr.org

You can either send in a cd, we can transfer them via “cloud storage”, or we can meet up.

The aim is to have the book ready well before Christmas. Please get your photographs to use by the end of October to give us time in November to create the book.

Thanks to everyone….

John writes: “Some fantastic photos and great comments tell their own story of our time in The Lakes. My thanks to the people of Threlkeld and all you walkers who surpassed yourselves in this inspiring and amazing landscape. 3 gigs within 300 metres of each other and all packed. My perfect tour!! Keep rambling. JJ”

Lunch plan for the Friday walk and parking in Threlkeld

In a week’s time, John and Colin will be leading two walks along St John’s in the Vale. Fingers crossed for weather as good as today.

Walkers will meet at the Threlkeld Coffee Shop at the Village Hall on Friday at 9am. We will split into two groups for high-level and low-level walks along St John’s in the Vale. Our local scouts have been out to The Lodge in the Vale where we were planning to meet for lunch. The Lodge feel they are not able to cope with the number of walkers that we expect to be with us. The two groups will therefore meet in the car park at Legburthwaite, head of St John’s in the Vale. Please bring a packed lunch for this walk. The car park has toilets and a lovely view down the valley (perhaps not to be enjoyed at exactly the same time). The Lodge is not far away if anyone does desire their coffee and cake.

For the three evening events, there is plenty of parking in Threlkeld. Please respect local residents when you park.  The Village Hall has a car park but please do not leave a car there while walking for the day as their coffee shop is open for visitors all day. Please click on the link for the Threlkeld Website to see further information on parking.

Meet you there.

Return to the Ridgeway – 6/7/8th June

JJ and the Reluctant Ramblers will take to the ancient pathways of England for a short 3 day walking / gigging tour of The Ridgeway, starting at the iconic stone circle at Avebury and walking east to the Thames Valley with gigs at Marlborough / Wantage [a session] and the Nettlebed Folk Club.
JJ says ..” This is one of my favourite paths in England and we re-trace the steps of our White Horses Walk in 2012 passing the Uffington White Horse. There was a time when I thought this might not happen this year so it will feel very special. I hope I can make it with your help. ” JJ

Last chance to walk with JJ this year

As part of the Kington Walking Festival, John repeats his beautiful walk to the source of the River Arrow through stunning border scenery, through a hidden valley to the ancient Celtic church at Colva and, after a welcome stop at Gladestry, continues on over Hergest Ridge to complete the walk into Kington.
